Hello Fall! Is anyone else excited about Fall (Autumn) officially being here? Okay just me, that's fine. Well, either way Fall is here and that means that it is cozy sweater, hot cocoa/cider, UGG, scarf season. Where we are headquartered, it doesn't look like Fall but truly summer, but that's the tradeoff of having your Headquarters in the South. But you also know what
It is also #protectivestyle season! This is what we love more than cozy sweater's and hot drinks. Girl, it's that time where you can give your hair a break and you do not have to worry about it for 6 months (depends on you as a natural). Braids, sew-ins, wigs, twists, updos, faux locs, box braids, knotless braids, crochet braids, buns, flat twists. You name it and it can be accomplished with ease. These are the joys of having natural hair, you can wear and style it any way that you please, and it will look great. For all of my males, this is the time of year that is essential for your hair as well.
What is Protective Styling?
Protective styling is defined as any style that keeps the ends of your hair tucked away and minimizes the manipulation of your hair. The ends are the oldest part of your hair, and it is crucial that you protect them because they are the first to become damaged, split, break, etc. This is generally accomplished through braids, two-strand twists, updos, wigs, etc to give your hair a well-needed break from the harsh elements of nature.
Protective styling is defined as any style that keeps the ends of your hair tucked away and minimizes the manipulation of your hair. This is generally accomplished through braids, two-strand twists, updos, wigs, etc to give your hair a well-needed break from the harsh elements of nature. When we use these methods of protecting our ends, we are sealing in moisture and minimizing the damage we put on our hair.
What Protective Styling is NOT!!!!
Protective is NOT causing excessive damage to the scalp or hair by pulling the hair out. It is not getting hairstyles that will cause tension to the scalp. So yes LADIES, when your stylist is braiding your hair and you have a headache and it feels like Floyd Mayweather and you went 12 rounds and you lost every round, that ain't it sis! Stop letting people rip your scalp out so that your hair will " LaSt LoNgEr, or It HaS tO bE tIgHt" 🙄😒🤔. Please make it make sense, because how will you sleep the first night if your scalp is sore.
Protective styling is not changing your hair every week. If you are someone who does not like to commit to long-term hairstyles, honey chile that is your business BUT my recommendation to that is find something that will work best for your hair. I believe one solution to this can be glueless wigs. Wigs are super convenient for those who switch their hair every day or every week because it offers the versatility that you want without having to manipulate your hair too much. Now make sure you are keeping that scalp moisturized with our Hydrating Hair Growth Oil so that you can experience GROWTH, LENGTH RETENTION, AND RELIEVE THAT DRY SCALP! Remember I said that we want to protect our ends and we want to retain moisture.
How do I Retain Moisture?
I'm so grateful you asked! Well, you simply need to make sure that you are moisturizing your hair before you are wearing your protective style, refreshing your hair as needed, and oiling your scalp daily. In order to seal in the moisture you have to get it from somewhere, right? Well, that's where we come in at Tree of Life Hair Care, we have some products that will be essential for your protective styling.
This is the key to really sealing in moisture into your hair.
✨Our Twist & Loc Souffle is going to make sure that your hair is 👏🏽 MOIST 👏🏽 TUR 👏🏽 RIZED 👏🏽. ✨
Sis/Bro, when I tell you that this is going to take your hair moisturization to the next level, it is going to moisturize your hair when you put it in the protective style and your hair will be moisturized until you take it out of the style. I promise you, I have personally seen it.
This is the exact product you need in your hair cabinet because it will bless you.
Next step, we have to build these layers of moisture. It's kind of like when you cook and you season your food, you want to season every layer. The same rules apply!
In order to have the MAX amount of moisture, you have to apply products in order. Once you have applied our Twist & Loc Souffle, then you want to apply our signature Hydrating Hair Growth Oil right on top. This creates layers of moisture so that your hair has something to soak in.
The real reason your hair may be dry is probably that you don't have anything for your hair to soak up so now it's thirsty, and you look like Spongebob when he didn't have any water in Sandy's house.
Once you have completed these steps, and please do not forget to add water or a moisturizer before you use the Twist & Loc Souffle, so as to follow the L.O.C/L.C.O Method. If you are not familiar with this technique, check out my previous blog Ya Hair is Dryyy Sis 😒! Let Me Help You 😩!
